hello again (on being 25)

/ Monday, February 2, 2015 /
This blog was started to document my travels when I was 21. However, having freshly gained the ability to legally walk into bars -- I was more interested in documenting my drunken nights.

22 was a rough year. The only year rougher was 20.

At 23 I was hell bent on understanding what it meant to be single again. Apparently this meant nonstop weekends in Vegas.

24 hit me like a brick wall. Knocked me down, shook me up, and opened my eyes. You can't run from your demons forever. Trust me, I like to run. I'm notorious for running. But sometimes [read: always], the past will catch up to you.

Then I turned 25. And I dropped the blinders. I took a step back and looked at everything from afar (something I wasn't capable of before). Suddenly things that had seemed very dramatic or demanding of my attention were no longer important. Certain people were no longer important. And everything fell away until the only things left in focus were what I had always known to be truly substantial.

And this feeling has only improved as I move forward in my 25th year. It appears that things that would normally have agitated me or kept me up at night seem to slide right by. I always thought I would dread 25 -- but suddenly it feels like an old friend.

So hello, old friend, here we are again. Here I am, writing, again.
