recently i was commissioned to shoot a holiday family portrait. i find children to be the most photogenic because they have no awareness about vanity. no concerns over their appearances or their clothes. and they are almost never self-conscious. they are, however, very tiring to photograph because they don't stand still.

this is my dear friend, deanna. we've been friends since the second grade and she is one of the most photogenic people i know. and my greatest muse. this image is pretty much how i've been feeling. like i've been living in a endless maze of my own madness. perhaps finally, i am finding my way out.

how can i begin to say
i feel better off when we stay
in paris on winter nights
beneath the snowy veil
it's not snowing in california. it never snows in california.
but the heat wave is driving me mad -- so i made something to cool me over.

ceci n'est pas une photographie
a long, long time ago i came across this photo, which introduced me to surrealism painting and the world of magritte. my ten year old self has been fascinated by such "strange" photos ever since. when i shot my first 365 in 2010, i attempted this photo; but it never quite came out the way i liked.
thought it'd give it a try again. turns out the problem was that i tried to replicate the exact magritte painting. it wasn't stylistically "me" for a photo. so i tried a few other things: sitting, walking, lying. and eventually simplicity won out. anyways, this is me, paying tribute to one of my favorite paintings.
