camera review: fujifilm finepix x100
this is my bf’s fujifilm finepix x100.
basically a $1300 point and shoot. i’ve been testing the waters with it.
this leica-esque camera is in pretty high demand amongst newbies and seasoned photographers, so i took it for a spin.
pros:
- light weight unlike the common DSLR but delivers quality photos. (if you’re wondering about the quality, i took my anniversary photo with it)
- high ISO options allow for low-light shooting
- low-enough aperture (a fixed 2.0)
- user friendly
- aesthetically pleasing (reminiscent of the nikon fe-2 i started shooting with)
cons:
- no interchangeable lens (fixed 23mm)
- aperture isn’t low enough for me (i prefer 1.8 or below)
- manual focus is rigid, auto focus is slow
as you can see from this list, there are more pros than cons. and my bf is absolutely in love with it, but i personally think i would stick with my DSLR and my 50mm.

“There comes a point when you just love someone. Not because they’re good, or bad, or anything really. You just love them. It doesn’t mean you’ll be together forever. It doesn’t mean you won’t hurt each other. It just mean you love them. Sometimes in spite of who they are, and sometimes because of who they are. And you know that they love you, sometimes because of who you are, andsometimes in spite of it.”
to love mankind
it’s very easy to hate. it is far more difficult to love. especially to love in spite of.
yesterday night at dinner, jonathan told me one of our friends dislikes a couple of his exes.
when pressed if she knew any of these girls, his answer was no.
the explanation is simple.
perhaps this hate was rooted in romantic jealousy
and while we all shook our heads and frowned,
have we all forgotten we might be accused of the same crime?
judgment. because hate is so easy, we slip into its embrace so willingly.
we don’t like someone…just because.
i’ve been there.
but distance and experience has caused me to reexamine some past judgment calls.
thanks to the profound stalker capabilities of facebook and personal blogs,
i've delved deep into the hearts of those who i have barred from my heart.
and what did i find?
myself.
these women were me. these women were human.
they have faults and hurts as much as i did.
and more than that, we have things in common.
that given another life, a different chance, we might have been the best of friends.
but never was i given that chance nor did i make that chance for myself.
i judged because i constantly allow my own rash, irrational, unfounded paranoia and personal jealousy to consume me.
for this, i am apologetic.
